According to the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, about 25% of the water supply in urban areas of Texas is used for landscape and garden watering. Put another way, according to research by Pecan Street Inc., the average water usage for a household without landscape irrigation is about 100 gallons per day. The average usage by households equipped with landscape irrigation systems spikes to 1,235 gallons per day.

So, what does this mean for the average homeowner or renter? It means that, by far, the best way to conserve water is to reduce landscape watering! The two best immediate ways to work towards this goal are by educating yourself about how much water your landscape actually needs and by ensuring your irrigation system is running as efficiently as possible.

If you live in one of the following districts, you are eligible for a free water irrigation system evaluation (WISE) from the WISE Guys Program. Simply click here to get started.
